Our Business
We make games and license the Angry Birds characters
Games
We create, develop and publish mobile games based on the Angry Birds brand as well as other characters. Rovio’s games have been downloaded more than 5 billion times. The majority of Rovio games are free-to-play (F2P), meaning that they can be downloaded and played for free. At the end of 2022, approximately 97% of Rovio’s group revenue came from games. Rovio has seven game studios – one in Espoo (Finland), Stockholm (Sweden), Copenhagen (Denmark), Barcelona (Spain), Montreal and Toronto (Canada), as well as a subsidiary in Izmir (Turkey) called Ruby Games.
Brand Licensing
Rovio licenses the Angry Birds brand and its related characters to selected partners. The Company’s licensing business began in late 2010 and in 2021 represented approximately 3% of the Group’s business. Licensees use the Angry Birds brand in various different products and services such as toys, clothing, restaurant promotions and location-based entertainment (eg. activity parks). In June 2020, Rovio signed an agreement with IMG Licensing for global representation for Angry Birds brand licensing in consumer products and location-based entertainment, and in March 2023 IMG became the exclusive publishing agent for Angry Birds books, comic books, audiobooks and activity books.
